# What is listing management?

Listing management is keeping a business's name, address, phone number, hours and category correct and identical everywhere they appear online. It covers the major directories and maps, the sites specific to a trade, and anywhere else a listing was created once and then forgotten.

The failure this prevents is mundane and expensive: someone drives to a shop that closed an hour ago because one directory still carries last year's hours. Nobody complains about it, they just do not come back.

Duplicates are the harder half. A single business can accumulate several listings over the years, from an old address, a former name, or an automated import. Each one splits reviews and confuses the record.

Who is allowed to change the record turns into its own question once there is more than one site. An owner with one shop simply fixes it. A group with a manager at each branch has to decide who can edit what, and still see every site in one view, and that is a different kind of software rather than a bigger version of this one. Its main inputs are the accuracy of a business profile, the consistency of its listings, and its review volume and rating.
